What makes a good tip for Sonderbriefing?
A good tip is specific, verifiable, and serves the public interest. At Sonderbriefing (sonderbriefing.de), we cover Swedish news, politik, wirtschaft, economy, culture, society and current affairs. We are particularly interested in developments in the Riksdagen, regeringen, and municipal politik, as well as economic or business stories with a clear Swedish angle. Strong tips often involve unreported policy shifts, potential waste or misconduct, or stories that affect ordinary people’s lives—such as changes to housing policy, labour market rules, or public services.
We also value tips on culture and society: for example, how a new law affects creative industries, or how a local initiative is reshaping a community. Please avoid vague speculation or personal grievances. Instead, focus on concrete facts: documents, dates, named individuals (where safe), and specific events. If your tip relates to a public-interest story that crosses borders—say, a Swedish company’s activities abroad or EU policy affecting Sweden—that is also relevant. We follow a rigorous internal protocol that includes cross-referencing against public records, official databases, and trusted secondary sources. Laura’s team does not assume a tip is true simply because it arrives in our inbox. We will ask for clarifying evidence, such as redacted documents or permission to contact named witnesses. If your tip is anonymous, we will still take it seriously, but we may need additional corroboration before publishing. We never rely solely on a single tip, no matter how detailed. Every piece of information we publish is checked by a human editor, in line with our editorial policy. AI-assisted tools may support research or formatting, but they never replace human judgement—and they never fabricate quotes, sources, or interviews.
What about confidentiality and protecting your identity?
Your confidentiality is paramount. Sonderbriefing Media Ltd. (registered in Gibraltar, company number C 92009, Malta Business Registry) and our entire editorial team treat all tipster communications as protected. We will not reveal your name, email address, or any identifying detail unless you give explicit consent—or unless we are legally compelled to do so. We understand that some sources face real risks. If you are submitting information that could put you in danger, please state this clearly in your message. Our editors will take extra precautions, and we may consult with legal advisors before proceeding. We will never pressure you to reveal more than you are comfortable sharing. Imagine a local council in a small Swedish municipality quietly reallocates funds meant for after-school programmes to a private consultancy. You are a former council employee who has seen the budget spreadsheets. You email tips@sonderbriefing.de with a subject line “Municipal budget reallocation – Karlstad” and attach a redacted copy of the relevant budget page. What happens after you submit a tip?
Once your tip arrives, it is logged by our newsdesk team and assigned to the relevant editor. You will receive an automated confirmation of receipt. Within five working days, an editor will either follow up with you for more details or let you know if the lead does not fit our current editorial priorities. Due to volume, we cannot guarantee a reply to every tip, but we read every message. If we decide to pursue the story, we will keep you informed—within the limits of journalistic confidentiality.
If your story is published, we will not name you unless you agree. Where possible, we attribute information to “a source familiar with the matter” or “a document obtained by Sonderbriefing.” If you believe we have made an error in reporting your tip, please send a correction request to corrections@sonderbriefing.de.
