Beschwerdeverfahren

Anyone can submit a complaint about any article, headline, image, or editorial process at Sonderbriefing. This page explains exactly how to do that, what happens after you send it, and who will review your concerns. We take every complaint seriously and will always give you a clear, reasoned response.

How do I submit a complaint?

Send your complaint by email to complaints@sonderbriefing.de. You can also use our general contact form at /about-us/contact/ if you prefer, but the complaints address is the fastest route. Please include the full URL of the article, a brief description of what you believe is wrong, and why it matters. If you are complaining about a factual error, please tell us what you think the correct information is and, if possible, provide a source you trust.

We cannot act on anonymous complaints, so please include your name and a way to reach you by email. We will acknowledge receipt within two working days. All complaints are treated confidentially and your contact details will not be shared outside the editorial team handling your case.

What happens after I submit a complaint?

Your complaint goes directly to Laura Arnold, our Head of Fact-Checking (emma.sandberg@sonderbriefing.de). She logs every complaint in our internal system and assigns it to the relevant editor. For a straightforward factual claim, the article’s named writer and the section editor will review the evidence and respond within five working days. For more complex issues, such as allegations of bias, omission, or unfair treatment, the review may take up to ten working days, and we will keep you informed of progress.

If we find an error, we will correct the article following our Corrections Policy and add a transparent note at the bottom of the piece explaining what was changed and why. If we find no error, we will explain our reasoning in detail. Every response we send includes the name and direct contact of the editor who handled the review, so you can reply if you are not satisfied.

How this works in practice

Imagine you read an article about Swedish housing policy on our site and you believe a figure about rental increases in Stockholm is wrong. You send a complaint to complaints@sonderbriefing.de with the link and your evidence. Within one working day, Laura Arnold assigns the complaint to our Politics Editor, Sebastian Roth. He checks the original source we used, consults a government statistician, and finds that the figure was correct but the article failed to note that the figure excluded student housing. He drafts a correction and a short editor’s note. You receive an email from Sebastian within four days explaining the correction, with a link to the updated article. If you had remained unhappy, you could reply and ask for the complaint to be escalated.

Can I escalate a complaint?

Yes. If you are not satisfied with the outcome of the initial review, you can ask for your complaint to be escalated to our Editor-in-Chief, Tim Zimmermann (anders.lindqvist@sonderbriefing.de). Please include the original complaint number, which you will have received in our first acknowledgement email. Tim will personally review the entire case, including the original article, the evidence submitted, and the response you received. He will issue a final decision within ten working days. That decision is binding for the editorial team, but if you believe we have still not addressed the issue fairly, you are free to refer the matter to the Swedish Press Council (Pressens Opinionsnämnd) or to the relevant media regulator in your jurisdiction.

Who owns Sonderbriefing and what are our editorial standards?

Sonderbriefing is published by Sonderbriefi Media Ltd., a private company registered in Gibraltar (company number C 92009) and listed on the Malta Business Registry, with its registered office at Office 9, Business Centre, Valletta, 0000. We are an independent Swedish digital news publisher. Our full Editorial Policy and Ownership & Funding page explain how we are financed and how commercial relationships are kept separate from editorial decisions. Our Fact-Checking Policy and AI & Automation Policy set out the precise standards every article must meet before publication.

Where can I find other important policies?

For privacy matters, please see our Privacy Policy. For details on how we handle corrections that are not related to a formal complaint, see our Corrections Policy. If you have a concern that does not fit the complaints process described here, you can always write to us at info@sonderbriefing.de and we will direct your message to the right person.

In short

Send your complaint to complaints@sonderbriefing.de with the article link and your evidence. We will acknowledge it within two working days, investigate thoroughly, and give you a clear written response. If you are not satisfied, you can ask Editor-in-Chief Tim Zimmermann to review the case personally. We are committed to getting things right and to being accountable for every piece of journalism we publish.
